Feature request: Flow rate and water usage

In the app it is possible to see the flow rate as well as the amount of water used when a zone is running.

Would be nice if these values could be displayed in home assistant as sensors as well.

I'm very interested in this is well. I have several B-Hyve 21205 (HT-25 Gen 2) units with internal flow sensors that I can help test with if needed.

Unfortunately I don't have any devices which support the water flow rate so would be running blind here. Can you enable debug logging and if you can trace it in any of the logs then we might be able to get it done.

Would you rather see the straight API return from the developers page from bhyve? Not sure if you're directly tapping into the API, but there might be some info there (unless you already went through that).

One way to do this is to get the flow rate from the water meter. My water meter show data when a flashlight shined on it. It shows the flow rate. By recording the flow rate for each zone this can be extrapolated based on run time. I used Claude to put together a component that gets the data from this integration and uses the configured flow rates to calculate the water used, sum it by zone daily, weekly, monthly and yearly and store it in HA database. I'm still working through it, but conceptually this seems to work.

I have three Gen 1 B-Hyve Smart Hose devices (HT25-0000) and hub, and it would be nice to be able to have history graphs for water usage as the B-Hyve app is not very user friendly for water usage details.

As stated prior, I don't have any devices which expose flow rates or usage. Please turn on debug logging and see if there is any data which could be used to put this into HA. Until this happens, there will be no movement on this issue.

It’s not the HA logging you’d need to report. It’s the API from orbit. I believe you can get that data by looking at the json values returned from the bhyve developer’s page in Dev Tools on your browser.

I went through the entirety of the returns I could find from the devtools and there is no actual flow rate reported on any of them. So there's only the flow rate that you can calculate at the end of a zone run. There's no live info unless you find API documentation from Orbit.

The only thing I could find is under watering_events. The issue is it's basically the data that's already reported by the integration in the zone report. The flow rate is just the consumption divided by the run time.

ANyways, here's how I track consumption through an automation:

When the zone goes from "on" to "off" for 5 minutes:

1. I set an input number (input_number.dxhyve_back_yard_direct) to the following template value:

2. Then I do the same for a total time input number (input_number.dxhyve_back_yard_direct_time)

3. Then I wait 30 seconds and set both of those numbers to 0

That's the end of the automation.

I also have a template sensor that tracks these changes:

If you want, you can also setup a utility meter that tracks that sensor with the "Periodically Resetting" option checked.

If you want flow rate you could just divide the total volume by run time and get a rate. but that will only work after the fact.

I track a few other things like total application in inches through some math but that's another layer beyond what you're asking here I think. I'm sure I could simplify this but it's what has worked for me for a couple years now.
