[Bug] Accounts from Bunq bank are negative instead of positive

Description

I have connected my 2 banks via EnableBanking and the first bank is working perfectly however my 2nd bank (Bunq) is importing also fine however the balances are showing the correct value, but negative instead of positive.

The account of my 1st bank is shown as "Checking".
All accounts of my 2nd bank (Bunq) is showing as "Credit Card". (I will log a separate bug for this one)

Now Bunq has multiple type of accounts and the screenshot shows 8 in total but this is a mix of Checking (2x), Credit Card (1x) and Saving Accounts (5x).

Could this issue be, because of the account type? Can I adjust the account type in Securo?
Also, the Credit Card account type at Bunq only supports positive values. It acts like a credit card but needs positive balance. Some other banks in the Netherlands that offer credit cards also allow positive balances so might be required to support this on this account type.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Fresh Install of Securo
2. Connect Bunq bank via EnableBanking integration
3. Sync
4. Check balances

Expected Behavior

Balance values to be taken as they are in the sync, positive or negative, regardless of account type.

Actual Behavior

Balances are all showing the correct numeric value, but negative instead of positive.

Environment

• Deployment: Docker
• Browser: Vivaldi
• OS: macOS 26

Additional Context

Issue perhaps caused by the account type "Credit Card"? I cannot change this for any of the accounts in Securo.

Hey @colinator19, thanks! I checked the code. Securo just uses what Bunq sends via EnableBanking, we don't change the balance or pick the type ourselves. Each bank sends a type code and we map it (current→Checking, savings→Savings, card→Credit Card). Your other bank sent correct codes; Bunq sends "card" then we handle that with negative balance.

Accounts that only hold a positive balance are more likely a debit/prepaid (an asset), so the correct type would be Checking, not Credit Card(liability).

Best easy fix on our side I would suggest to run a

UPDATE accounts SET type = 'checking' WHERE id = '<account-id>';

on the accounts which are actual checking and see how the balance react to that.

Hi @tassionoronha - Thanks for checking. I have adjusted the type via the database directly and indeed the values now show positive in Securo.

I am not sure how the actual data looks from Bunq but it would be weird if they all are the same type (card) and I would not expect that for saving accounts at least, but Bunq have some more weird things going on with their data so maybe I should not be surprised haha.

I suppose for the "checking" accounts Bunq shows that as a card type of account based on how they deal with their account types themselves but are mostly debit cards. They do offer a creditcard that you can "pre pay" a certain amount which can be utilized by merchants as a real credit card. They do this to support their customers for car rental merchants etc... which usually do not accept a debit card. In reality, it is still a debit card basically but towards merchants its presented as a credit card with a limit of the current balance.

Does the sync override the account type or will it remain set after changing it in the database? It would be nice if the type can be adjusted via the UI.
