+SemiTO-V was organized as an informal RISC-V related open source hardware community around January 2025 by Tan Siret AKINCI, an electronic engineering student at Politecnico di Torino. Tan recognised that RISC-V is a serious contender to current closed source ISAs after witnessing release of RP2350 MCU chip and DC-ROMA RISC-V Mainboard for Framework laptops, and decided to promote it in campus. SemiTO-V gradually evolved into a dedicated team with some projects and event partecipations, and finally became an official student team at Politecnico di Torino on 31 October 2025, becoming the first RISC-V student team in Europe and one of the first in the world.
