Seems to cause Atom to hang in some situations

Through enabling/disabling plugins, it looks like this package is causing Atom to hang at 100% when parsing certain changes to lisp files. Usually it's when I've just opened a new parentheses ( or am editing existing parentheses.

I'm not exactly sure how to trigger it, but I experience this fairly regularly. Is there any way to enable debugging to narrow the problem further?

This is an open problem I'm working on. It seems to be caused by recursive syntax rules. There is a way to avoid it, but it means formatting the code in a less lispy way, such as:

(defun foo
       (bar &optional (baz 5) frob (quix 9))
  'llama)
; instead of this
(defun foo (bar &optional (baz 5) frob (quix 9))
  'llama)

I agree, it's dumb, but it's the best temporary solution I've got. I'll let you know when it's fixed!

I had thought that it was getting triggered when I started messing with &optional (... I'll try your suggestion in the meantime.

Hey @cherrymud I've got a (possible) fix to this; your request has pushed me to actually fix it (I've known for a while, just been too busy / lazy).

I've pushed a new branch editor-hang-fix if you would like to test. If you don't have time, but have some code you know hangs the system for a bit please copy/paste me a sample so I can test with what you've got.

I'm going to do a few more things and see if I can make it barf on my own and see if my fix works.

After having no problems for a few hours yesterday, I had the hang occur again, right after typing &optional. Looks like the bug may still be around... Sorry. :(

@cherrymud Do you have any other Lisp packages installed, like paredit or something?

I can't reproduce this; it mightn't directly be the fault of this package.

@Alhadis This is actually a known problem to me, though I haven't found a proper solution just yet. The problem comes from the fact that a lot of the regex's are recursive, and there is a lot of backtracking going on to find the proper way to highlight something.

What I'm thinking of doing is making a lambda-list regex specifically for argument lists and the like that won't recurse to other lists... That might work, but I'm not sure.

One of the problems seems to also be the size of the file & where the recursive match thing is in relation to the file. The JS library they are using in Atom to do the regexin' does it by line usually, but that doesn't mean it works fine all the time...

OTOH, I might just do what the Haskell guys did and write a parser that does all the things for me, then I wouldn't be relying on some JS library that is tailored for regexin' C-like languages...

This issue is still happening. I have had to completely disable this plugin.

Is this project still being maintained?
