Are there any options to limit special characters?

I recently used this to generate passwords for some switches and found that, if the password contains a pipe (|) it accepts the password but then the account cannot log in. (Thanks Cisco)

I resorted to nice long upper lower and numbers passwords which works.

Is there any way to exclude or include a subset of special characters though?
