Use remote control to assign keyboard input

I want to use a remote, mainly used for smartphones, to assign keyboard functions. The remote can be connected to my Linux Mint computer. In the Editor of Input-Remapper, when recording a pressed button at the remote device, I receive more than one command. Simply trying to assign the received sum of commands to a single keyboard command, such as "KEY_PAGEDOWN" does not work.
