Unable to access registry schema due to firewall – need support for local schema resolution

We're currently setting up the shadcn-ui registry inside our corporate environment, which has strict firewall restrictions. Unfortunately, all outbound access to URLs like https://ui.shadcn.com/schema/registry.json is blocked, resulting in errors like:

request to https://ui.shadcn.com/schema/registry.json failed, reason: getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND ui.shadcn.com

What I'm trying to do

• I'm initializing the registry locally using the registry-template.
• The registry.json file references the schema via:

{
  "$schema": "https://ui.shadcn.com/schema/registry.json"
}

• Because of the firewall, this fails and breaks tooling/validation when i install from the custom registry

npx shadcn@latest add http://localhost:3000/r/hello-world.json

What I tried

• I cloned the registry template locally and it works except for the schema fetch.
• I manually downloaded the schema and tried updating the $schema to point to a local file and hosted on a local server http://localhost:4200/schema/registry.json, but that breaks JSON schema validation tools in some IDEs and the shadcn-ui CLI still expects the remote URL.

Request / Suggestion

• Can you support relative/local schema paths in registry.json?
• Or could there be a fallback to a local file if the URL is not reachable?
• Any recommendations for teams working in air-gapped or restricted environments?

Environment

• CLI version: shadcn-ui@latest
• Registry template: latest
• Environment: air-gapped internal dev network

I am getting same warning now, never had it before and I am not in corporate environment.

Unable to load schema from 'https://ui.shadcn.com/schema.json': Location https://ui.shadcn.com/schema.json is untrusted.

Is it a false positive ?
