If you just want to do a manual check now and again, you can use a debug container to run a command either
Note that you need to specify If you want to incorporate smart data into your monitoring stack I guess you could use https://github.com/prometheus-community/smartctl_exporter or https://github.com/E4-Computer-Engineering/nvme-exporter. But I guess you are asking how you get say smartmontools or nvme-cli onto the host. Not sure, perhaps a DeamonSet that mounts the hostPath disks. I've not tried this. I've been using the manual method to inspect the drives since I recently I also had ssd problems. |

Due to recent ssd outages I have to use tools like this to get some early indication of ssd problems:
