I love Stimulator and have to use it on a regular basis. It would be wonderful if there was a top bar icon that I could click to enable/disable the suspend state.

Hi, there is already support for app indicator

This works out of the box on some DEs like KDE but in gnome it needs an extension (app indicator extension)

To activate it , go to the settings and change behavior on exit to Run in background and it will show the tray icon if your DE supports it

Though it only shows up when stimulator is running on the background, some users don't like this and found more suitable alternatives #86 (comment)

The app indicator extension creates rather ugly icons on my stock Gnome ui. What I meant was something like what I saw other Gnome apps/extensions do:

Main.panel.addToStatusArea("myPanelButton", ...);

then you could add a menu that is visible on click and has a menu to enable/disable the stay awake toggles and change the icon according to the state of the toggles. Or do I misunderstand the whole concept of this?

I'm not sure anymore, the api seems to very old and not recommended by gnome as far as I can tell

Hm, where do you get that from? Because it is very regularly used. I hope it stays or will at least be replaced by something more powerful, but with the same result.

I see this repo currently uses appindicator, gnome doesnt support this

You have to use Appindicator gnome extension for it to work

That extension internally uses the API you mentioned https://github.com/ubuntu/gnome-shell-extension-appindicator/blob/0ba42a09f378e126517de61011a38ce54d85327a/indicatorStatusIcon.js#L50

So to summerize, the problem is not in the api, but in the functionality, so what are the features that you're missing?

• I don't intend for the indicator to replace the app, so you'll notice it's limited in purpose to only indicating that stimulator is active when it's in the background and restoring it, if that's not what you want as I said there are better apps for this
• you said it's ugly can you post a screenshot of what's off exactly? Do you have something better
