Unable to select/highlight text while typing a message

When typing a message, I can no longer tap and hold on a word in order to highlight and select the text to bring up the context menu (copy, paste, select all, web search, etc).

If I background the app, wait a moment, then return back to my message, I can magically select text again within my message while typing. *This is new behavior that I just started noticing in the last few days.

Update: after testing right now, simply backgrounding the app does not work to re-enable text highlighting — instead, you must completely close Signal (presumably to clear the working memory) and reopen the app in order to highlight text you've already entered in the chat box but haven't yet sent.
