The MIRI team has measured different thermal background levels as seen by the MIRI MRS versus MIRI imager (and other modes such as LRS), due to different optical baffling within the instrument subsystems. It would improve calculation accuracy to have separate thermal background models depending on instrument mode.
This enhancement for the ETC is requested in https://jira.stsci.edu/browse/JETC-6352

If/when that is implemented, we should also update the JBT to allow selecting between distinct thermal background models depending on instrument mode.
