Hey @huebener-ai, thanks for reporting. I have a quick question for you: how did you install Spyder and cvxpy?

I installed everything using pip (so no local compile) in a clean virtual environment.

@huebener-ai, thanks for the extra info. Could you create another venv, only install cvxpy and spyder-kernels on it, and connect it to Spyder as explained in our docs?

That's not ideal but it could solve your problem. If not, it would help us to understand if the issue is in the interaction of cvxpy with one of the Spyder dependencies, or in the way it fails to work within our kernel.

Hello, thanks for getting involved - I think I found the core of the problem and will describe it in the cvxpy-thread.

I read your comment and the issue seems not to be between cvxpy and Spyder, but cvxpy and Matplotlib. So, the thing is spyder-kernels sets the Matplotlib backend automatically if it finds it in your environment.

That probably loads kiwi-solver, which generates the segfault when cvxpy is imported.
