Variability information accidentally deleted when previewing

Reported during 3DGeo sprint: Previewing removes variablity information (likely due to its shared implementation with batch visualization).

This is a bit more tricky to fix. The easiest workaround is to explore possible parameters with batch visualization and then immediately save the variability without further preview (preview doesn't do anything with variability information anyway)
