Creating new local variables from inside a custom tag

Hi! I'm trying to create a custom Antlers tag that appends a new variable to its current local rendering context. Is this possible? I've tried appending to the context as well as the cascade. Neither seem to get picked up for use by the surrounding code.

Use case: a capture tag that stores its rendered content into a variable for later re-use. Similar to storing a partial's output into a variable, just that I can't use partials in this case.

I'm struggling with the last part: putting the captured output into a variable that can be used further down after the custom tag. The links variables is always null. I double-checked that the tag gets rendered, the issue is with appending the value to the local context.

This is the capture tag itself:

    public function wildcard($varname)
    {
        $content = $this->parse();
        $this->context[$varname] = $content;
        Cascade::instance()->set($varname, $content);
    }
}

The current workaround is to reach into the cascade with a PHP override, but that doesn't feel very idiomatic...

that should work, is it possible you have a variable called links already there?

Can you please confirm by taking out your tag and doing a dump to see if there's a links in there?

Also, what version are you on?

You know what? It magically started working after your comment. I double-checked everything and added a dump statement. The new variable doesn't show up because it dumps the context at the point the parent tag was created, but it definitely seems to fetch the variable from the cascade. Case closed :) Thanks! I'm confused as to what exactly I was doing wrong earlier, but I'm also on a deadline and can't afford to care too much at this point...
