Hi

I am seeing more and more projects starting to consider migrating to platforms other than GitHub for source code hosting because of Microsoft's position and its rather... extensive use of projects available on GitHub to train their AI.

Would StreetComplete fall within this scope?

The ‘simplest’ solution would be Forgejo and Codeberg (which is an instance of Forgejo).

Almost all the tools are available, except perhaps the discussion/forum, which is still under discussion.

But even a translation tool (Codeberg Translate, which is an instance of Weblate) is available.

They also have a tool to easily migrate repositories from GitHub to Codeberg.

Maybe I'll plant a seed, or maybe not, but I wanted to open a discussion on this ^^.

I am experimenting with Codeberg ( https://codeberg.org/matkoniecz ) and there is quite a lot of frustrating things of various variety. I would not be enthusiastic about move.

Though I am not enthusiastic about Microsoft or relying on proprietary tooling either.

But overall I think that in such case I would go with status quo. And for now I am quite unlikely to create any new repos on Codeberg. Though I am for now not planning to migrate existing ones.

why you think that moving project to Codeberg would change much on this issue?

The Codeberg web interface is much (!) faster and more responsive compared to GitHub
The Git clone and push feel about twice as fast as GitHub (not that it matters much)

claims. Note that in my experience reality is about opposite, and Codeberg keeps having outages quite often. This is not necessarily a blocker, but this seems making wildly overenthusiastic and misleading claims.
