The hidden .tangent folder (in portable for Windows), it would be nice if...

Love Tangent, especially the colorful syntax highlighting. My major switch-case for moving to it would be the syntax-highlighting.

I use the "portable for Windows" Tangent .exe.

I have .md files sprinkled throughout my file system.

A hidden .tangent folder gets created every time I open a .md file. This hidden folder is local to the opened .md file. It would be nice if whatever all these hidden folders need to contain could be contained in a single .tangent folder that is local to wherever the portable Tangent .exe is located.

Hi xmatic. Tangent is designed to operate within a workspace: a folder of files and notes. The .tangent folder is created to manage the settings, etc. of that workspace. Whenever you open an .md file in a directory that isn't a workspace (or a child of a workspace), a workspace is created within that directory.

I'm offering an alternative viewpoint for devs to consider: this behavior adds .tangent folders to the folder and file hierarchy. A way to use Tangent that doesn't add any files or folders to the existing hierarchy would be preferable (e.g., how Notepad++ works). But I completely understand if it's not possible for technical reasons.

It's certainly possible! It would be a change of some core assumptions in a few places. A non-trivial change, but a possible one. Unfortunately, I don't think I can commit to putting such a request on the roadmap right now. However, you're welcome to look into it and open PRs in that direction!
