Issue balancing last page memory and maximized window state without reopening previous files

Hi there!

I'm experiencing an issue with SumatraPDF related to session memory. I've configured the program to remember the last page read for each PDF, and that works well with the following settings:

RememberOpenedFiles = true

RememberStatePerDocument = true

However, there's a trade-off:

If I don’t enable RestoreSession = true, SumatraPDF doesn’t remember that the window was maximized when I last closed it.

If I do enable RestoreSession = true, the program does remember the maximized window state, but it also reopens all previously opened PDFs, which I’d prefer to avoid.

What I’m trying to achieve is:

When I open a PDF, only that specific file should open.

SumatraPDF should remember both the last page read and the maximized window state.

Is there any way to configure this behavior? If not, would it be possible to consider it as a feature request?

There is a third related control which is remember session
which is the one that restores all previously open files on restart

So you could only need RestoreSession = false however to open the one you used last you need to use the history
the position will be first or second depending how new session is started without or with a file.

I believe there may have been a misunderstanding. I did mention RestoreSession in my original post — the issue I'm reporting is precisely related to how RestoreSession behaves.

To clarify:

If RestoreSession = false: SumatraPDF opens only the selected file and remembers the last page (as expected), but it does not remember the maximized window state.

If RestoreSession = true: SumatraPDF remembers the maximized window state, but reopens all files from the previous session, which I don't want.

So, your suggestion to set RestoreSession = false doesn't solve the window state problem, and using history doesn't help either — it just lists recently opened files, but it doesn't affect the window size or state.

What I’m looking for is a way to:

Open only the PDF I choose.

Restore the last page read.

Preserve the maximized window state from the last session.

Unless there’s a hidden setting I missed, it seems that this combination isn’t currently possible.

I’d appreciate it if we could reopen this discussion or consider it as a feature request.

reopened on your insistence/request but am failing to understand what is not correct.

RememberOpenedFiles = true
RememberStatePerDocument = true

will in general (unless the file is not "rememberable") open any file at its last stored state from the settings file

However the word "maximised" is not really appropriate to files as that is an Windows Applications state that has had its own issues, which is why it currently works fairly well.
As stated if restore session is true the Windows state for the session is remembered but so too will any prior session files.

The 2 ways to achieve a restored maximised session state without 2 or more files is to

• ensure all files apart from current are closed via close all other tabs before closing session.
• not remember session (with files) but start maximised

OK that video does show some odd behaviours and hard to describe in words, so currently I dont have such an issue with my settings

RememberOpenedFiles = true
RememberStatePerDocument = false           this will not remember last page visited
RestoreSession = false                                  each file opened will be based on last window state normal or maximised

but if I switch to this it behaves oddly
