Tray Icon confusing

I think the tray icon is confusing. It seems that if the mouse is dulled and has no eyes, it's actually active, but when it looks more "awake" it's actually inactive? I think a tooltip on hover would help.

Why does it seem to be backwards? I had set this up for a long running data sync task and my PC went to sleep which dropped the VPN connection :(

I changed the system try icons once. It was not a popular decision.

I am not sure what you mean by "dulled and has no eyes". Can you include a screenshot?

Looks the wrong way round to me? The top one looks like he has his eyes closed and is sleeping :)

Admittedly the icons aren't crystal clear, but there's only so much you can do with 16x16 pixels.

The orb in the middle is what indicates the status, which looks clear enough in your images.

OK - an improvement then would be to make the icons identical except for the orb.
To me the top one looks like mousey is sleeping with it's eyes shut as it has been blurred during scaling, making the eyes disappear.

I think when the icons were created, the top was resized with bi-cubic sampling whereas the bottom one was resized with nearest-neighbour (better for tiny icons). I feel your pain - I've been creating icons since 1999 :)

HI @nmg196 - thank you for the advice. I am no graphics designer (clearly), and just muddle my way through it using GIMP.

Would I be able to do something like that in GIMP?

I also have a gripe with the tray icons. Since I am using smaller taskbar icons, it's basically almost impossible to see what state it is in, the little color belly is hardly recognizable. What I liked in the old version (3.6.0) is that with a right click on the tray icon I could see if it is running or paused.
