Classify attachments by labels

What is the problem you are trying to solve with this feature?

Besides photos, typical kinds of attachments in my setup include manuals and purchase receipts. As these do not necessarily have expressive or distinctive filenames, it would be helpful if I was able to assign labels to them. This would support finding the right attachment when an item/asset has multiple ones. In future, it might also enable filtering by attachment type, e.g., "all assets with a purchase receipt".

What is the solution you are proposing?

A new kind of labels to be assigned to attachments only, living in a namespace different from the currently existing labels for items/assets. Defaults might include:

• Photo
• Manual
• Receipt

What alternatives have you considered?

Manually giving all files descriptive names before upload

Additional context

Reasons for poor filenames include:

• manuals downloaded from vendors' websites
• receipts received by email attachment, with names also following the vendor's logic
• or, even if I had introduced my own semantics, it might not have been encoded in the filenames but in a folder hierarchy (e.g., in Dropbox) that Homebox doesn't see.

Thanks for pointing me here – I see; this was not obvious to me. This makes my basic wish obsolete, as the feature is basically there. It follows the same philosophy as the creation of an asset/item, i.e., that the creation dialog (here: for an attachment) it lightweight, and further information can be added by subsequently editing the object just created. Thus, we have two choices:

• close this discussion as a non-issue, or
• rewrite it into something like "enable customization of, and search by, attachment types, like with labels".
