Switch from Postgres/PostGIS to MongoDB

There are a few issues with the current ORM and the requirement for PostGIS:

• it's quite a pain to set up and deploy
• cloud providers with PostGIS support are expensive (heroku only support PostGIS on production tier Postgres plans starting from $50/month)

MongoDB's recent 2.4 release provides quite advance geospatial queries, is easy to deploy and there are plenty of free hosting options (MongoLab, MongoHQ).

It would therefore make sense to switch to a MongoDB ODM e.g. django-nonrel.

So very this, I just wrote a custom PostGIS app, got it working locally, and found out it would be $50/mo to run on heroku.

NoSQL is great in theory, but in practice is not very good (Djangorifa
is all about the relational data...) ... cost on Heroku is not
necessarily the most compelling reason to change!
