As an industry we really need to get a grip and work out how to make sure people are paid what they're worth for the contributions they make to our professional careers.

If Adam was a plumber who created a fancy new tool that enhanced the careers of other plumbers he could sell it worldwide and have it be a sustainable business for himself and his team. Only we seem to have this issue where huge players make use of all these tools for free and people expect Adam and his team to somehow work for free for them. The entitlement is absolutely insane to me.

There must be a solution we can all come up with. Some sort of automated licence fees or something to ensure people who contribute to our code and efficiency are rewarded for their efforts or all we're going to see is giant corporations deciding the winners and losers and making things their way in the future.

Edit: one allegory is something like residuals that actors get paid for previous work, something like that could be awesome.

The most obvious approach here is crowdfunding. The developer company exposes its T&M costs and its own interest rate, and all users fund the development proportionally to their usage on subscription basis.

It’s complicated to distribute all the expenses across an undefined number of users. I guess big companies should take the initiative. Funding Tailwind would be nothing on the scale of Google’s or Microsoft’s budgets. Many well-known open-source projects have grown with backing from industry leaders.

Recently, we saw a case of acquisition where a large IT company simply acquihired the entire product team. I mean the acquisition of Bun by Anthropic. Moreover, this is an example of a direct AI company contribution to a technology heavily used by its users.

Could this be the case for Tailwind?

I would like to say for the entire tech industry the following:

1. I have built my own AI system independent of the fads, which I've never or hardly used (just for opp research).
2. I spend all day writing feature requests, pair programming, testing, and code review. I haven't personally written a line of code in over 4 months. Just like what the lead tech of Anthropic is telling you he is experiencing.

LLM Can't Handle BC Breaks

Now Here's the deal:

1. If I try to use libraries or languages that routinely break backward compatibility more than ni a 3-5 year window, LLMs have a TERRIBLE time. Just try with the zig language for instance.
2. With Rust, I have ran into this many times, especially with the opencv project. LLMs just get 2 or more backward incompatible versions stuck in their heads and can't create compilable code.
3. I notice this affects a lot of people in the more trendy languages (particulaly python, Node, and Rust) more than in my main day-to-day language, PHP. Heck, all of my own 65+ PHP libraries are backward compatible for 10+ years...

Countermeasures against LLM Hallucinations b/c of Backward Compability Breaks

What is the main way to get around this?

I had to have an LLM recreate core features of it. At the end of the day, it was easier for me. for instance, to create a completely new WhatsApp API service (by automating WhatsApp Desktop) than to use LLMs with WhatsApp Business API.

With AI-assistance, I orchestrated the creation of a unsanctioned WhatsApp API in about 24 hours, but pre-2025, that would have taken me EASILY 2 weeks or more, and other devs months. Not everyone has cracked creating web bots via Chrome like me...

The Medium-Term Future

This got me seriously thinking... What is the future?

With my Autonomo AI platform, I have a service that can create an API Server and Client (complete with full E2E test suitse) for ANY PHP library. Here's one it created in less than 30 seconds: https://workdays.phpexperts.pro/ off of phpexperts/workdays.

Based upon this (complete automation of creating API servers and clients), I think we as an industry will pivot from npm, cargo, and composer in the next 5-10 years to something like this:

I think this, in fact, the exact ask of the controversial Tailwinds PR, which shows i'm probably on the right historical pathwa.

I imagine something like Packagist.org but one that explains the ABI and WHAT the code should give and return, and the AIs create it from scratch, probably via medium-sized models we run on our laptops in 2028...

I just wanted to put that out there somewhere where visionary people might read this and actually start implementing it.
