Hi @bmobius . To improve performance on extremely old and/or low-end hardware, PhotoDemon frequently uses premultiplied alpha behind-the-scenes. This limits its usefulness for tasks that use alpha to represent other information, like textures.

For game texture tasks specifically, I'd recommend either GIMP (which has many channel-specific tools, including merging and splitting individual components to/from images) or Paint.NET (which has a much larger community than PhotoDemon so you stand a better chance of getting relevant help).
