Question about MH3 Play Boosters

I noticed that the fetch lands were included in the reprint slot in MH3 Play boosters. Is that correct? I thought only the New-to-Modern reprints were in that slot.

"1 New-to-Modern card – MH3 brings 20 uncommons, 18 rares, and 4 mythic rares from Commander and Legacy formats and introduces them to the Modern format for the first time. This slot contains only cards that are new to Modern. In a regular frame, this slot has the 20 uncommons (75%), 18 rares (21.3%), and 4 mythic rares (2.3%). The slot also could contain Booster Fun or retro frame versions. There are 6 rares and 1 mythic rare in the borderless frame break treatment (0.8% in total), 2 rares and 2 mythic rares in the borderless profile treatment (0.3% in total), 2 rares and 1 mythic rare in a retro frame (0.2% in total), and 1 additional borderless mythic rare (less than 0.1%)."

And I believe fetch lands aren't New-to-Modern reprints.

🤔 you might be onto something... are you able to prepare a PR by any chance?

Ummm... I know nothing of Ruby which is what you all are using I am pretty sure. And I know nothing of your code base. Or how you calculate the probabilities for the slots when Wizards does not publish it themselves (I have found the "Collecting X set" articles to be vague and imprecise).

All that being said, I am would be happy to help! And learn as much as I can to at least help fix this issue. I assume I would be looking at /data/boosters/mh3-play.yaml?

You don't need to do any Ruby, MH3 Play Booster definition is all in data/boosters/mh3-play.yaml

yeah if you feed the queries from data/boosters/mh3-play.yaml into https://mtg.wtf (sometimes appending e:mh3) you'll get the list of cards that go into the sheet - you'd need to identify which slot is the one that includes the fetchlands and then filter it out (ie with -number:X-X)

This is the query I used that I think removed all printings of fetch lands. Do they need added back into the rare/mythic slot and the wildcard slot? I don't see them there.

Also if you still would like me to make a pull request, I will. I can replace the appropriate line in the YAML file with this line.

@kodawah @jrisi256 I updated the booster, moving fetchlands from reprint slot to new_rare_mythic slot.

Please verify that everything looks correct.

Oh yeah it looks great. Thanks for your work on this matter. I will dive in and double check later this week.

It, unfortunately, appears as if there are some issues. Primarily with the the wild card slots. I did not check the foil slot, but the non-foil slot appears to have some issues. I triple-checked, but I believe the probability does not sum to 1 for the wildcard non-foil slot. It is very close but not exact (and I have found your pack probabilities usually are exact). Additionally, the probabilities do not match what Wizards said in their article (https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-modern-horizons-3). For example, they say in the wildcard non-foil slot, commons will show up approximately 41.7% of the time. In your data, though, they show up 70% of the time.

Quickly skimming through the Wildcard foil slot, it appears as if some of the new-to-Modern reprints are missing (e.g., Branching Evolution) which should be able to appear in this slot.

On the bright side, it appears as if the fetch lands were properly moved to the new_rare_mythic slot.
