Who else has a similar issue that OpenDTU doesn't reliably connect to a repeater with highest field strength in an AVM network?

I initiated this poll to ask the community whether my connectivity issues are unique to my network environment or if it is a more general issue:
Here's my network environment:

• AVM Fritzbox 6490 configured as mesh master, Firmware 7.29
• 3 AVM Repeaters (1x 2400, 2x 1200 all on Firmware 7.50) connected via Ethernet (LAN bridge)
• all devices are publishing the same SSID
• autochannel and roaming activated.
