When I try to run UAC on ESXi, it says it doesn't have enough space on the hard drive to save logs

When I try to run UAC to collect logs on ESXi, it says it doesn't have enough space and gives write errors, so the logs are empty. However, I know it has enough space because I ran df -h, there was plenty of space. And I can save other files there and create other types of logs.

Has anyone run into this before? Is there a recommended way to get around this?

The tar version installed in ESXi systems do not provide an option to get names to compress from a file (such as -T in Linux, or -I in BSDs). This means UAC needs to copy all collected data to a temp location before compressing it.

In the other hand, the zip tool provided by UAC acts like tar -T, getting names to compress from a file.

I believe you have 3 options here:

• Use --output-format zip to have a .zip instead of a .tar.gz;
• Use --start-date and --end-date options to limit the amount of data to be collected;
• Perform multiple custom/smaller collections, selecting a few artifacts during each run.
