Running `npx npm-package-json-lint` in a package root errors with: No lint targets provided

In a repo with a package.json:

$ npx npm-package-json-lint

Yes, I second that the default experience could be better.

• Could it not find a package.json in the cwd?
• Can we skip the required config file?

I just want to run this tool as onetime sanity check really.

From the CLI documentation you must provide a path to the project. So if you want to lint the package.json in your current directory you must add a period:

$ npx npm-package-json-lint .

I was also a little surprised that it does not have any default configuration. But the reason for your previous error was only that there was no path provided.

I would also prefer it to have some defaults. Like other similar tools such as npx sort-package-json…
