Suggestion: Reverse share

Hey,

just an idea. Would a reverse share be a nice-to-have feature? Basically, allow the app to take the clipboard and share it with another app. Could be very useful for apps that don't have text input (and therefore can't be pasted into) or speed up the process in some cases.

I find it very weird that there are apps that accept a share intent but not input. With that being said, I like the idea anyway.

I was mainly thinking of apps like Barcode Scanner. It can receive text via share, then generate and display a QR code of this.

To be honest, it sounds more like a feature request that belongs in barcode
scanner than here (ask for custom text area support).

Here are the thoughts of someone who is just looking through projects on GitHub.
I use a closed-source clipboard manager. Mind you, I make sure that thing can't access the network. :-)

Using this clipboard app, I often share from the clipboard to various applications.
The barcode scanner is one app that has been a target.
A common one is my code/text editor.
But if I've copied contact info, I may share to the contacts app.

URLs I share to the particular browser or app that I want to view the URL, not always the default option. For example, I like NewPipe - it's a FOSS YouTube app that uses the web APIs exclusively. As a result, you have far more control of how a video is played (format, resolution, etc.).
Also, there are no ads. :-)

I understand that I'm coming from a different perspective because I have a clipboard utility, but with this experience I very much understand the desire for @haarp 's "reverse share" request.

@Grossdm, thanks for your input, but I still don't quite get the use case. I mean, I get it for barcode scanner, which should just have a place to enter free text rather than only via share.
Text editor: why don't you just paste it there if it's already in the clipboard? I don't understand why you'd want the share mechanism for that.
I don't think I get what you are talking about with regards to NewPipe. The Android solution would be to just not set it as the default, but ask every time. I don't see how a feature here would change anything.

For my text editor, there are two reasons:

1. I often share from the clipboard manager an item that is not on the clipboard currently. E.g. I may copy text, then copy a small amount of text that I want to use as the filename. After I have shared the clip to the editor, I can simply paste into the file|save dialog.

2. The text editor is not open yet. The clipboard manager is fast to access, so I just open it and share the text to the editor.

As for NewPipe, it's often hard to not have the YouTube app steal every link (yes, I've cleared defaults). If I can copy the link, then I can share to NewPipe.

This is not a clipboard manager though... It's a tool to use the share to intent that most apps support to save to clipboard instead of opening in an app. It can work in combination with a clipboard manager though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like what you want is an open source clipboard manager...

My favourite clipboard manager, Clipboardr https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.isaiasmatewos.clipboardr hasn't been maintained since 2015 (still works with Android 5 but not 10) but the author is still publishing. I've asked them to publish the sources on Github but got no response yet.
If enough people make the same request I'm sure they will at least think about it.
