Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
How are apps supposed to know that HW they care about has been reset. Likely they are checking in fairly often but what if they don't?
Describe the Solution You'd Like
Should we provide a timely notification over some event interface?
Describe Alternatives You've Considered
Soon they'll get ENODEV and SIGBUS so maybe that's sufficient.
Why is this Feature Important?
More straight-forward programming model for applications.
Use Cases
Long-running training application knows immediately that hardware is down and to restart from a checkpoint rather than finding out the next time it touches hardware.
