postgresql 17 package so postgis will work in termux

It seems the version of postgis included in termux is compiled against postgresql 17, but the version of postgresql that comes with termux is postgresql 18. This makes postgis not usable (at least for me).

Would it be possible to provide a postgresql 17 package so I can install that instead? There should be one from a previous release.

Or if one is already provided, some simple instructions on where to find it would be appreciated.

We do not usually keep around multiple versions of packages, the delay in getting postgis updated to support the current postgresql version present in our repos is unfortunate there is however already a pending PR to update postgis to 3.6.2.

So this should presumably be resolved shortly, I'd like to hear back from Robert (the PR author) before going ahead and merging a PR I haven't previous reviewed.

My need is somewhat urgent. Would it be reasonable to attempt a local build of 3.6.2? Are there instructions for how to go about doing that and installing that package instead of the one from the repo? I'm fairly literate with this stuff so I wouldn't need a lot of handholding.

You can download and install the build artifacts from the PR linked above.

I do have a pre-written reply for how to do that.
However it's a bit outdated I think, I haven't updated to the latest UI redesign for PR actions.

If you want to test this PR please download the appropriate DEB package(s)
from the build artifacts of the associated PR's latest CI run.

After downloading the build artifact, make sure to unzip and un-tar it.
