Class not found

I have a document shared to me that was made in VSCode and uses Tau-class. The tau-class folder exists in the project root, but TeXstudio complains "Class: tau-class/tau (not found)" and all its custom commands break.
I have tried opening the project in Overleaf and it works as well.

Is there a way to make custom templates bundled alongside the project just work (like a global setting)?

it works from latex side.
txs needs a cwl file which decsribes what the class actually contains, see https://texstudio-org.github.io/advanced.html#local-packages and https://github.com/texstudio-org/texstudio/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions#how-does-txs-know-about-valid-commands

Turns out compile was breaking because they also shipped main.aux and other auto-generated files to me. Deleting them and recompiling worked.
