Spikes attached to blocks

I have an idea to let you put spikes on blocks. Possibly color the spikes to denote that they're part of the block. Snakes can't push the spiky part of the block, but anything else can. Snakes die when spike blocks are slid/dropped into them.

In general, could we connect anything to anything else? So normal blocks would be walls connected together, but what about fruit connected to spikes connected to walls, and all of it moves around? How about one end of a portal that can be moved around?

What about connecting something to a segment of a snake's body?

I believe that new mechanics should be intuitive to grasp. Attaching things to blocks raises some questions, and without intuitive answers to these questions, I wouldn't recommend adding block-attaching functionality.

Unknown fruit behavior

• What happens if the fruit falls off the map? (do snakes have to EAT every fruit to open the exit, or just dispose of the fruits?)

Unknown portal behavior

• How does it behave with walls? (can it be pushed into walls?)
• How does it behave with fruits? (can it be pushed into fruit? does the fruit teleport?)
• How does it behave when pushed into the other portal?
• How does it behave with the exit? (can it be pushed into the exit? does the exit teleport?)
• What happens if the block falls off the map (does the other portal insta-kill snakes now? does it even work?)
• How would it be displayed? (To me, it seems weird to attach block support beams to a portal)

Unknown exit behavior

• Can the exit be pushed into walls? (The exit seems like it shouldn't collide with anything, but I'm not sure)
• How would it be displayed? (To me, it seems weird to attach block support beams to an exit)

Unknown behavior with connecting to snake body segment

• What happens when the snake exits the level? (does the rest of the block disappear, or just drop where it is?)
• Actually, this makes sense to me.

To sum up my thoughts:

Spike-blocks:

• Intuitive
• Many level design possibilities
• I would enjoy if this mechanic is added!

Fruit-blocks:

• Intuitive (except for when blocks fall off maps)
• Many level design possibilities
• I would enjoy if this mechanic is added!

Portal-blocks:

• Adds too many complex concepts/mechanics that players would need to grasp
• Many level design possibilities (very complex/evil levels)
• I would be scared if this mechanic is added!

Exit-blocks:

• Intuitive (except for when blocks fall off maps, and when intersecting with walls)
• Many level design possibilities
• I would enjoy if this mechanic is added!

Snake-blocks:

• Intuitive mechanics (except for when snake exits level)
• Not that many level design ideas come to mind
• No preference about if this mechanic is added!
