Extensive integration tests

I am not confident enough my engineering skillz to ensure that all edge cases are covered, and this ticket is a notice for anyone looking at the 0.3.0 release that I don't consider it safe until it's closed.

A significant amount of tests were complete in commit afca08e

There needs to be an integration test for consistent snapshots. Not sure if I did this or not, but here's a reminder to myself.
