Possible support to use the frontend library "nominatim-api" if we have "DB" access to avoid http/server roundtrip?

Hi all,

Thanks for that great piece of software! I was wondering if you were envisioning to add support for a direct "DB"/tool (well it's not a DB here) access when it's not required to access it over the internet to avoid http/server overhead?

Like using it with https://nominatim.org/release-docs/latest/library/Getting-Started/ or any other tool?

I was thinking of using something more efficient for access. Currently HTTP overhead is probably higher than the geocoding logic itself.

From your answer I'm not sure you really got what I was suggesting. I'm not suggesting "Nominatim" which is being used right now, but "nominatim-api" which uses psycopg to access the DB directly. So yes, I'm more thinking of an interface/driver (gdal?) to access the "DB"-ish directly, without HTTP overhead

There's no plan for that currently. But contributions are welcome.
