Building Against Specific Backend Versions

The default HIP version for

burn = { version = "0.16", features = ['std', 'hip-jit'] }

is 6.3.42131, wheras I run 6.3.42133. Trying to manually set a feature version like

cubecl-hip-sys = {version = "6.3.1000", features = ['rocm__6_3_1'], default-features=false}

Or using CARGO_FEATURE_HIP_42133=1 results in both features being active at once and therefore a build panic.

So how would someone build a downstream app for ROCm 6.3.1? Or 6.2.4 for that matter?

Your burn config doesn't disable the default feature flags, so the hip-jit/default is enabled.

But actually, now that I took a closer look, there is a conflict in the feature flags down the line. In cubecl-hip the "rocm__6_3_0" feature is always enabled.

We should probably fix this.

How would this even be done? Not having any versions set would mean the default build would fail. Maybe the env has to take precedence instead of appending?

I'm surprised buildrs doesn't just read from hipcc --version or something.

Yeah the issue is not with the env, just with the cargo feature flags. Should be fixed pretty soon, I'll link to the PRs once everything is complete.

The build script does check for compatibility with the installed version.

Looks like I woke up to good news. I get passed burn compiling now so its just the stable diffusion demo that needs updates.

On my 7900 XTX using the official rocm 6.3.1 ubuntu packages.

On my host sys rocm 6.2.4 I get teh same undeclared __shfl_xor_sync as well.

I was going to try the wmma compiler too at some point but I'm not sure if that'll make a difference.
