This project was founded as a passionate expression of human creativity and ingenuity, and we wish to uphold that ethos as much as possible. Every pull request in our CHANGELOG directly credits the author who opened it, implying that an actual human being took the time to research the issue, mindfully plan and craft the implementation, and then collaborate with maintainers on getting it merged.
At all costs, we want to avoid creating the impression that SQLx is being "vibe coded" or that any decision was made, or line of code written, as anything but the deliberate action of a real human being.
However, because it's impossible to detect with 100% certainty, the use of generative AI is not expressly prohibited.
Instead, we reserve the right to refuse contributions for any reason, including but not limited to:
- Ignoring instructions in, or completely bypassing our issue or PR templates;
- Using AI to author issue or PR descriptions;
- Using AI to generate responses or interactions in threads;
- Submitting pull requests which duplicates work in existing open PRs without acknowledging this or explaining why a new pull request is justified;
- Submitting commits attributed to an AI agent, such as Claude;
- Submitting any content containing clear hallmarks of generative AI.
Thus, the theme is "plausible deniability". If it doesn't look like AI-generated slop, we have no reason to treat it as such.
