With heavily heart, I am considering to archive Virtaal repository.
I'm not one of the original members of the Translate House nor one of the founders of Virtaal. However Virtaal was for long time my preferred translation editor.
Virtaal features an amazing newcomer tutorial on how to translate using Virtaal, per-filter checks result generated by pofilters, colored diff, and much more. The colored diff is one of my favorite features of Virtaal, which makes easy to quickly spot the change between the current msgid and previous msgid.
However, its year 2025, last stable release 0.7.1 is from 2011, latest beta 1.0.0 is from 2014, there is was an effort for porting for Python 3 but stopped (see #3267, see branch py3), some minor bugs yet not fixed, GitHub issues are piling up without even triage...
Also there are currently plenty online, web-based translation projects that seem to the preferred way for most translators nowadays, like Weblate (which also uses translate-toolkit, but with a very active development).
So, unless someone step in and revive this, my plan is to 1) wait at least a week before doing anything, then 2) update the website https://virtaal.translatehouse.org/ with the archive information ('was' instead of 'is', etc.) and then 2) make this repository read-only.
