How to send and receive tumblr messages via apis

Is there any apis available for sending and receiving messages to other blogs. Not asks or submissions, but messages.

Caveat: I am not involved in this project.

Looking at the API documentation at: https://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/api/v2 it doesn't look like there is an endpoint for sending/reading messages, so I'm assuming without that there is no way for this module to support it either.
