The main use case is well easier installation on desktop. While I know that you guys also package an App Image, I honestly tend to prefer PWAs, as it saves me storage, memory (as it already uses the same browser instance and not a new one), it integrates with my browser login and extensions, and updates are seamless or at least depends on the browser and not managing an App Image.

My request is just mainly given that Proton Mail for example provides a notification installation (or prompt) for its web, and the fact that it has it helps to the PWA initialization to start in the correct page, I can obviously install any page as PWA, but one needs to know the site to install it. Which is a problem I already have with Discord, as I need to be on say the friends page to install it correctly and with 0 unread messages for the icon to not have a red dot.

While, well, it would be a bit cool to also probably have a background push notification, as done with WhatsApp or Telegram web apps (similar to having the Tuta desktop app in background or tray), that is something I completely understand if it's not implemented, as it requires dedicated service workers implementation and such.

I was gonna suggest Vite's PWA plug-in but I think you guys don't use Vite.

Hey, thank you for explaining a bit more.

I guess we would actually like to encourage people to use native apps more. People tend to assume that this is the same as web app but there are big differences: there's a persistent offline cache, much better search and more performant operations as well as platform integrations. So I'm not sure how much sense there is for us to invest into PWA-specific functions.
