Tutanota provides end-to-end encryption for emails, ensuring maximum privacy. However, there is currently no SMTP service that allows local devices (e.g., printers, scanners, home automation systems, NAS, ...) to send emails to a (Tutanota or any other) mailbox without relying on third-party services like Gmail or Outlook. This forces users to expose message content to external servers, which contradicts Tutanota’s privacy-first philosophy.
Problem:
Local devices often require an SMTP server to send notifications or documents via email. The lack of a dedicated SMTP service forces users to use insecure solutions or third-party providers, compromising confidentiality.
