Apple silicone chrome gpu rendering crash #2106

Description

We're seeing what seems like a chrome gpu crash for a number of users all on apple silicone devices. After a few minutes in a twilio video room, parts of the ui start to go blank, including the address bar, the tabs bar, the back/forward/refresh buttons, etc. and parts of the webpage itself start to disappear as well. The only way to recover from this state, is to restart chrome. We haven't seen this issue on any other browsers yet, and it doesn't seem to affect all users on apple silicone.

This started within the last month or so.

Nothing logs in the chrome://gpu page when this happens, it doesn't list anything on chrome://crashes, nothing logs to the dev tools console, and if launching chrome from the terminal nothing logs on cli when this happens either.

I attached the chrome://gpu info for one of the failing devices where we've seen this: about-gpu-2025-06-05T17-57-47-909Z.txt

I also attached the cli logs from a session where this happened with comments inserted to mark the place of the crash since nothing is visible there: cli-logs.txt

We haven't seen this with other video platforms or other browsers yet, and haven't been able to track down anything related to this in the chromium bug tracker either unfortunately, so I'm not really sure if it's twilio video problem, our platform problem, a chrome problem, or an operating system problem.

I realize there's not a lot to go on here, but any help would be greatly appreciated
