Prerequisites

When trying to block this ad

the wallpaper /theme also gets nuked

I have tried a number of times with zapper and element picker, but they both result in the wallpaper being also blocked.

I cannot reproduce your nuisance, so I cannot investigate it.

You have to cherry-pick a proper filter in Element Picker, not just one suggested by Element Picker (and also you can try adjusting sliders), see:

• Every click produces an image instead of the element to actually block uBlock-issues#1961

And even if you check a proper filter, it still might happen that it will be insufficient or hide too much and you will need to manually craft a better filter.
