Aurora Failing to Wake From Suspend

Describe the bug

On both latest (6.15.x) and current stable (6.14.11-300), system fails to recover from sleep properly. It should be noted, was previously running NVIDIA 30 series GPU. Issues arose after a switch to AMD 90 series GPU, thus I suspect GPU driver troubles.

Issue not dissimilar to that made by pimeys a while back, though that one relates to 6.15.x specifically.

What did you expect to happen?

Expect the system to recover from sleep as intended.

Extra information or context

Similar to the previously mentioned issue, logs include

amdgpu 0000:03:00.0: amdgpu: SMU driver if version not matched

and

aurora systemd-sleep[13734]: [Error] > An error occurred: [Errno 2] No such file or directory
aurora (sd-exec-strv)[13731]: /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/fw-fanctrl-suspend failed with exit status 1.

though there may be more details I am missing. Full log attached.

This is a known issue with AMD GPUs and Linux kernel 6.15.x on Aurora—your error messages match those reported in issue #666. Fixes are expected in kernel 6.15.5, so the recommended workaround is to boot with an earlier kernel version like 6.14 until the fix lands.

The fw-fanctrl-suspend script failure is also documented; it's a systemd sleep hook intended for Framework laptops, but it can cause errors on non-Framework hardware (like your AMD GPU setup). If you don't need this script, you can safely disable or remove it to avoid related log noise.

Aurora doesn't include custom suspend/resume handling for AMD GPUs—support relies on upstream Fedora/kernel updates. If you want to try community workarounds, some users have had success disabling problematic PCIe devices before sleep using systemd services, as described in the Arch Wiki.

Keep an eye out for kernel updates, and consider pinning your kernel to a stable version until the upstream fix is released.
