QEMU/KVM appear to lock up after shutting down a Windows VM; both guest and host freeze during shut down #3474

Description

@Raindrac

Describe the bug

I've recently been experimenting with Windows virtual machines while attempting to get Apple Music to run with all features, including track & title editing, on Linux. But whenever I shut down a Windows virtual machine through Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), it gets stuck on "Shutting Down"; and when attempting to do anything further in VMM, such as opening a new window, it crashes. If I re-open VMM, it's unable to connect to the QEMU/KVM instance.

The guest OS isn't the only one to get stuck when shutting down— the host gets stuck when shutting down too. If I try to shut down Bluefin at any point after this bug occurs, it never shuts down. The spinning wheel eventually freezes and I have to hold the power button on my computer to force a hard shut down.

What did you expect to happen?

I expected a clean shut down of the Windows guest VM, and also that it wouldn't prevent the host machine from shutting down too.
