Screen not properly refreshed after upgrading to 1.6.8

I have a "Seeedstudio TRMNL 7.5" (OG) DIY Kit" and after upgrading to 1.6.8 (or 1.6.5 also) , I've noticed that screen refreshes don't flick as much, but they leave behind artifacts, when compared to original 1.5.x firmware.

1.5.x firmware:

1.6.8 firmware

I have the same issue with my 2 seeed e1001s on 1.6.8. I'm self hosting on terminus. Happy to provide logs or any other information if that would be helpful!

In my case, it usually goes away if I send a 2bit image to the device, which (for my device, reading the source) forces a full screen refresh (it flickers like in 1.5.x firmware). Using partial refreshes, after a few screens the area is refreshed enough that it leaves just a very light trace .. and after a lot of partial screen refreshes, it goes away.

So looks to me that the partial refreshes (which makes it flick less on a update) does it "too less" for a complete clear. Maybe up for the user, if he is vieweing from far away is not noticiable. On my case is besides my monitor/mouse ... so yeah 🫤 ...
I'm not sure if something can be done besides forcing full screen refresh by sending a 2bit image (for my device).
