Missing binary pairs for R23&Nitrogen and R218&Nitrogen

Good morning,

I am interested in performing calculations for a mixture consisting of Nitrogen, R14, R23, R218, and possibly Argon. However, I have noticed that the binary interaction parameters for R23–Nitrogen and R218–Nitrogen are not available in the standard REFPROP equation of state. As a workaround, I could employ the Peng–Robinson equation.

I recall that, in a previous issues, you mentioned the availability of additional unverified binary schemes for similar cases. I would like to inquire whether you might be able to provide such schemes for the mixtures I am studying. Since a scheme already exists for the Nitrogen–R14 mixture, and considering that R23 is also a methane-based fluorocarbon, I wonder whether it might be feasible to update the HMX.bnc file by adapting the existing coefficients.

Your guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Please send an email to REFPROP@nist.gov, and we can try and supply you with a revised HMX.BNC with parameters for some nitrogen-refrigerant mixtures based on an estimation scheme developed for another project on fire suppressant fluids.

Hi, We are finally back from the shutdown and I am trying to resolve REFPROP issues. The attached file has binary parameters added for R23-N2 and R218-N2 that were calculated using an estimation scheme presented here PROperties of FIre Suppressant SYstems "PROFISSY" A Spreadsheet Application for Fire-Suppressant Bottle-Filling Calculations<https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/TechnicalNotes/NIST.TN.2132.pdf> You can replace your present HMX.BNC file with the attached one (but please save your existing one just in case something goes astray). The attached file should be located in the FLUIDS directory, that usually is here C:\Program Files (x86)\REFPROP\FLUIDS You may need administrator privileges to place files in this directory. Also, the HMX.BNC that is attached here is identical to the one distributed with v10.0 except for the addition of R23-N2 and R218-N2. If you had made any changes of your own to the HMX.BNC file you will have to redo them, or add the changes in this file to yours.
