Summary Description

The tutorial will provide a decision tree for people to understand which tools are best to support their research needs with ICESat-2 data.

Example:

  • If you already know one of the existing published ALT products already meets your needs, use icepyx to do a direct download
  • If there are products that don't yet exist (e.g. snow on/snow off), you can use the SlideRule service to custom create your product
  • If you have other needs (e.g. your own photon classifier, say to look at bathymetry), then you direct download some specific variables and you run your own custom algorithms

Dependencies (things people should know in advance of the tutorial)

  • General understanding of the different ALT products (Tyler)
  • Familiarity with EarthAccess data login
  • General understanding of H5 data structures

Technical Needs (GPUs? Large file storage? Unique libraries?)

  • Examples will be small, we'll make use of the temp directory
