<span class="dropcap square">A</span> 212 began its life on November 12 in 1956., The premiere concert performance of Goethe's "Faust," directed by Mira Trailović, in which they played Mary Crnobori, Mata Milosevic, Viktor Starčić and Ljubisa Jovanovic, in the small hall of the old building, "Battles" in which there were only 212 chairs in the auditorium. <br>

The emergence of Atelier 212 meant a turning point in the life of the theater not only in Belgrade, but also in this part of Europe. Atelier was founded as a theater in which to play the new avant-garde drama, of great influence in Europe at that time. In addition, they wanted to create theater that will be different from the existing organization, which primarily will be an institution. In search of suitable space in which to realize their ideas have found newspaper reading room of the house, "Borba", Borislav Mihajlovic Mihiz called the new theater: Atelier 212 crowd on the 12th of November in 1956. Applauded, and the public was receptive to this unusual theater with an unusually staged performances. <br>
During the 54 years that followed, Atelier 212, through their performances, writers and directors, particularly through its great actor, has grown into one of the most important theaters in this region. <br>
Atelier 212 is the first theater in Eastern Europe to have played "Waiting for Godot" by Samuel Beckett, in 1956. Was. The great success of this show has enabled a number of other avant-garde plays to appear in the theater. Sartre, Faulkner, Ionesco, Camus, Pinter, Adam, RUŽEVIĆ, Joyce, Jarry, TS Eliot, Vitrak, Schisgal, hooves, women, for the first time are displayed on the stage before the Yugoslav audience. Longtime manager of Atelier was Mira Trailović, who along with John Ćirilov initiated the establishment of one of Europe's largest theater festival, BITEF, which was created in 1967. Was in Studio 212, and lasts more than four decades. <br>
After Mira Trailović the head of Atelier 212, Ljubomir Draškić who is in the theater as a young director, almost since its inception. Fifth manager of Atelier 212 was Nebojsa Bradic, who at that position kept very short (even an entire season). Svetozar Cvetkovic, actor and longtime member of the ensemble of the house, he was 12 years manager of Atelier 212 (since 1997. Until 2009.). Kokan Mladenovic, theater director, he led the theater since 2009. Till 2012.. The current director is a playwright and writer Ivana Dimic, whose professional start attached to this house. Today, Atelier 212 is a permanent ensemble of 33 actors, but is open to artists who are not permanently attached to the theater. During the 56 years of its existence, Atelier 212 has grown into one of the most important theaters in this region. Last season emerged as a leader of regional cooperation and the establishment of a unified cultural space and marked by their successes and theatrical life of Belgrade and the entire territory of the former Yugoslavia. For excellent results, at the proposal of the theater "Gavella" from Zagreb and SNG Maribor, 28 May 2012.
