Troubleshooting help? (Miami w/pump model S100105)

Hoping to get some advice on troubleshooting... so far I've soldered 2 boards together.

1st board did nothing at the pump (considering it mostly a loss due to trying with less than idea tools)
2nd board with proper tools looks great and seems to mostly work... it powers up, serves the webpage... I even get 104 up on the display eventually but no buttons appear to work and no errors appear that would give any clues... I did add the 3 560 ohm resistors inline on the H2 pins... that got me from a blank display to the 104... but nothing else.

Also worth noting (maybe relevant?) I can OTA update but not OTA filesystem update... should both work?

I'm at a loss for how to troubleshoot this, since its been literal decades since I chased circuit failures in my electronics training with the USAF...

OTA filesystem SHOULD work but it doesn't for me either. Don't know why yet. In the arduino IDE it was failing due to using password protected OTA. You can upload files from the UPLOAD menu on the ESP though. One by one but there is not so many.
Don't remember anyone reporting success or fail with S100105. Shorter cables and possibly changing to the other level converter may help. (You need another PCB or a DIY for that)

Shorter cables for the 6 pin plugs? I can try that easy enough.... de and re-soldering those sucks a bit but requires no new components. I'll look up that other LC from the other guy and prepare for that eventuality. Will update on the plug lengths a bit later today.

Also thanks for confirming the OTA issues. BTW -- the config for OTA can use the host name, instead of ips, since you provide a hard coded default host name... could simplify that OTA config a bit by also hard coding layzspa.local as the port ;)

Thanks! That's a great point! And it makes it easier to write in the instructions as well.

Well, I shortened the wires, by about half (and notched out room for the resistors so they didn't negatively effect the length of the cables too much. Similar results. I have the other 8CH LC arriving in a couple days... Going to try and shoe horn it in without a new PCB just for testing purposes...

Guess I'll also go through and run continuity tests on my solders again to make sure I am not just inventing problems caused by a bad solder or something.

Is there any output from the web app that might illuminate potential problems?

Unit powers up, immediately displays 104 (which was the temperature it was last set to) but no buttons respond and no activity in the web app triggers any changes on the pump side that I can see

Small update... I went back and cleaned up a few solder connections after getting spotty continuity checks and I also checked the resistance on the 3 lines with resistors... aside from one coming back 571 vs 560... Everything seems in order now on the soldering side. Unless 10 ohms is enough to jack up the signal? If so I can redo that one and see what happens (not like I dont have like 300 spares of those)

I do now see the IP address cycle the display (its really fast though so hard to read) but beyond that no button presses registering in the app still.

Edit: Buttons register in the web app, but do nothing. (will post a follow up with the button logs)

I did not add any new resistors yet, I can try adding it to that line as you suggest today... If we ever get our power back on. Can literally see the power co-op from our window, going on 14+ hrs no power 🙁

Yeah... power was out about 14hrs, but our internet is still offline... 26+ hrs later... we had to drive an hour to a t-mobile store and pick up new internet provider just to be able to work today.... I did find my old (very tiny) prototype board from my Arduino Uno days (10?+ years ago...) it just barely fits the esp and LC on it... but I think I can make it work for testing this evening maybe...

Added resistors on the CIO side and while i heard the startup music for the first time... I still had the exact same results, faint power light, faint filter light, and the 2 lights right of the segmented display (they were on last time too I just didnt think to mention them)

Well, my proto board is too small, and having a hard time finding a larger format (no solder options) since this pump appears to be problematic... any suggestions on where to find larger no solder protoboards?

Not sure what difference we have, but I've got a S100105 and I just wired everything and everything works perfectly (apart from the sound). I didn't add any resistors and I'm using the #define MIAMI2021 //no hydrojets define.

yeah should power everything: LCD + buttons + sound (I'm still not getting a clear sound, it's very screetchy for me).
When booting, you should see the LCD display IP + date as a marquee, then you can check the debug page to test buttons

Negative, same behavior Ive always gotten. Tune plays, ip shows, then just a couple of faint lights and no meaningful responses.

faint green power button, faint filter button... nothing else works -- same behavior I got with the previous board, when the pump was fully powered.

are the button recognized? You can check the /debug.html page
it's easier if you have some mqtt capability (HA for example), because then the button is decoded to its text form.
it's normal that the buttons don't do anything since the LCD/button part is just passive, it only transmit buttons and display whatever is send via the wires.
it's also normal that the buttons on the web interface reset immediately because they just mirror what they see coming from the main unit, and none is connected.

Turns out bestway is a terrible about warranties... only reply they gave was "we need more info, call us" and then their phone # just puts you on hold for an hour, then at the 1 hour mark, plays a pre-recorded "technical difficulty" message and hangs up, they do not respond to any other means of communication either, so Amazon is sending us a new hot tub... hopefully the new one lasts longer (and works easier maybe for this project?)

New spa setup (and filling) finally... plugged board in to test after we got everything re-inflated, and still cannot get anything beyond chimes, IP / version display to work at the pump...

At this point... I'm running out of possible ideas to try, and I've already run out of headers to make new socketed boards...
