KDE app?

Hi, if you are writing an app in C++/Qt6, maybe it makes sense to do it as a KDE app? I.e.: use KPart for text notes and other integrated features. There was an attempt to do that previously that failed due to the lack of effort - Calligra Author. However, there are successful KDE apps like Krita; also, having it as a part of KDE project can help promoting the app.

Perhaps? I just feel that standard Qt6 is more portable ...

KDE follows modular approach, so, especially if you want to build a Linux specific power app, looking how it can integrate into the KDE ecosystem might be beneficial. There are:

Ghostwriter - a markdown editor for focused writing
KDE Plasma pomodorro plasmoid (widget)
Arianna - ebook reader
Okular - omniviewing app
Calligra Words - odt editor, as I understand providing a KPart for rich text editing. Doesn't seem to be popular as a standalone.

If you are considering this app not being an rtf copy of novelWriter, I wonder if it can be beneficial to look how it can fit into existing KDE ecosystem. E.g. re-use Ghostwriter design for focused view. Or, see if distraction free mode of Plasma together with pomodorro approach can work for focused writing. Even if not following this path exactly, I wonder if it can make difference for a new app compared to novelWriter and competition.

(Also, Sigil is not a KDE app, it is a qt based epub editor.)

It's worth looking into at least.

At the moment I don't have time for two projects. I was hoping over time the workload on novelWriter would level off now that the app is quite mature, but it hasn't happened yet. When that happens, I can focus more on this app.

There aren't a lot of new, large features I do plan to add to novelWriter, but there are still some, and new ideas are coming in all the time. Although I may just say stop at some point.
