Generate notes, from a single file ?

Hello,

Is it possible to generate several notes, from a single one ? Examples :

• i have a note with a list of characters, with quick info such as name, age, places, relatives... and i'd like to create one individual note per character, as they grow in details.

• same idea with a list of places, named, without detailed description yet.

Or, the way to do it is simply to open one note per "item" as soon as the item appears ?

Notes can be generated from an undefined reference in a document, so if you define @char: Bob in a scene, but Bob's note doesn't exist yet, you can right-click and generate a character note.

If you prefer to define your characters first, the best approach (if defining many) is to put them in a single document, each character under a separate heading, and then right click the file in the project tree and select "Transform" and "Split Document by Headings". If each character has a level 1 heading (single #), and further details have level 2 or higher headings, you can limit the split tool to only split on level 1.

There is a feature request (I think, or at least it's been discussed) to generate notes from a spreadsheet, and I may add that at some point.

And, it seems if i update the root file, and split again, it makes all new notes, so, duplicates.
Is there another way to avoid it, and "simply" have updated and synchronized notes ?

No, the app as a matter of policy will never delete or overwrite any of your documents. You can select to move the source file of the split to Trash, but it maintains no linking information to the documents generated from a split so it cannot remove, overwrite, or synchronise them.
